THE WALKTHROUGH

Get set up,
step by step.

Ledger Live is a companion app for viewing accounts and managing supported crypto assets with a Ledger signer. Take a moment to follow these steps in order, especially if this is your first wallet setup.

01

Visit Ledger’s official download page

Open ledger.com/ledger-live in a browser you trust. Check the address carefully before downloading anything: search advertisements, social posts, unsolicited messages, and lookalike domains can lead to counterfeit apps. Ledger Live is available for desktop and mobile, but the available features and supported operating systems may differ. Choose the version that matches your device and download only from Ledger’s own website or the official Apple App Store or Google Play Store listing linked there.

↗
02

Install and verify the app

Run the installer you downloaded and follow your operating system’s prompts. On mobile, review the publisher name and listing before installing. Avoid third-party download portals, browser extensions promising wallet access, and files sent directly by strangers. When installation finishes, open Ledger Live from your applications list. An authentic Ledger hardware wallet is set up using the instructions displayed on its own screen; never trust a computer prompt, website, or support agent that asks you to reveal your 24-word recovery phrase.

↗
03

Choose your setup path

If you own a Ledger hardware wallet, connect it and follow the in-app pairing instructions. Confirm important actions on the physical device, where applicable. If you are new to Ledger, use the official getting-started guidance to initialize the device and create a recovery phrase offline. Write that phrase down in the order shown and keep it private and physically secure. Ledger Live can also be explored without connecting a device, but a software interface alone is not a substitute for secure key management.

↗
04

Add accounts and assets

Ledger Live organizes supported crypto networks through accounts. Add an account for the network you use, then review the asset and network names before receiving funds. Your wallet address is public, but it is still worth checking it on the hardware device when prompted. A token may exist on several networks; sending it using the wrong network can make recovery difficult or impossible. Start with a small test transfer when you are unfamiliar with a route.

↗
05

Review updates and security settings

Keep Ledger Live and your device firmware current through official prompts and documented support instructions. Before an update, ensure your recovery phrase is safely stored and never type it into a computer, phone, website, or app. Ledger Live may show portfolio estimates and transaction history, but displayed values can change and do not guarantee a sale price or transaction outcome. Enable device security features and lock your computer or phone when you step away.

↗
KEEP YOURSELF SAFE

Security is part
of the setup.

Crypto transactions are generally irreversible. Slow down, verify details, and treat recovery information as the keys to your assets.

01

Your recovery phrase is private

Never share your 24-word recovery phrase—not with Ledger support, a friend, a website, or anyone claiming to help. Ledger will never ask you to enter it into Ledger Live or send it online. Anyone who obtains it may be able to access your assets.

02

Confirm on the hardware device

Check the address and transaction details on your Ledger device before approving. The device’s screen is the trusted place to verify what you authorize. If anything differs from the information you intended, reject the request and investigate before trying again.

03

Watch for impersonators

Ignore unsolicited direct messages, fake support accounts, and urgent requests to “validate” or “synchronize” your wallet. Don’t install remote-access software at the request of a stranger. Navigate to Ledger’s official site directly instead of following suspicious links.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few quick
answers.

Is Ledger Live itself a wallet?

Ledger Live is the companion software used to manage accounts and interact with a Ledger signer. A Ledger hardware wallet protects private keys and requires physical confirmation for supported actions. Use Ledger’s official documentation to understand how the parts work together.

Can I use it on more than one device?

You can install Ledger Live on supported desktop or mobile devices, subject to current platform availability. Use official installation instructions and take care when pairing devices. Your recovery phrase is not a syncing code; do not enter it into a new device or app in response to an unexpected prompt.

What if my asset or network is missing?

Supported assets and features can change. Check Ledger’s current asset and network support information before sending funds. A token may require a compatible network account to appear, and a similarly named asset on another chain may not be interchangeable.
